This salaried full-time position is responsible for overseeing the receiving area and the volunteers working in the receiving area. As the first point-of-contact for donors, the Receiving Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and modeling a high level of customer service through training and mentoring volunteers and staff. Demonstrating a positive attitude whilst providing active, hands-on management support to volunteers as they relate to all aspects of the receiving area. The Receiving Coordinator schedules, and supervises receiving volunteers, and supervises Receiving focused Associates. The Receiving Coordinator will support and work closely with the staff team in the workroom ensuring a consistent flow of quality goods for processing while coordinating the flow of surplus donations and materials for discard.   • Required to work non-standard hours, including evenings and Saturdays
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11 to 25 lbs. of force frequently
  • May require 6 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in a standard workday
  • Ability to repeatedly bend or stoop to floor level shelves and able to reach upper shelves with use of a stool or a ladder when necessary
  • Valid ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license
  • Police vulnerable sector check (required upon hire)

General • Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador for MCC mission and values in every interaction with customers and donors • Share the news about your shop and the network in the community • Support Managers as needed to meet the demands of daily operations • Assist with special events and projects as needed Receiving • Develop strategies to meet revenue targets in your areas of focus • Responsible for reaching sales threshold in your area of focus • Work with the Management Team in the operation of the shop to ensure teamwork and a desirable working and shopping environment • Provide supervision and leadership to your volunteers and staff in your area of focus • Provide support, supervision, training, scheduling and annual appraisals to receiving volunteers • Have scheduled tasks and a plan ready for volunteers upon their arrival • Work closely with Production Manager and Department Coordinators to determine what items should / should not be received, maintaining control of incoming donations and assessing production volumes as needed • Work closely with workroom staff on efficient use of workroom space • Provide active, hands-on support to volunteers while creating a calm and fun atmosphere • Provide excellent customer service to donors ensuring they are thanked and appreciated • Responsible for adequate and well-maintained signage and information available to donors that communicates items accepted / not accepted • Proactively support all workroom groups processing donations by regularly collecting textile recycling, garbage, cardboard, paper, etc. while interacting with volunteers • When necessary, drive cube vans to and from recyclers, landfill etc. • Ensure accurate tracking and documentation of sell-on goods is maintained • Assist in sorting, cleaning, and processing donated goods Management Team Responsibilities • Be proactive in promoting positive public, staff and client relations • Ability to handle customer, donor and volunteer questions, concerns and conflicts in a professional manner • Provide back-up support for other managers in their absence or as needed, including opening and closing of shop (cash registers, daily reconciliations, etc.) • Assist with Social Media posts (Instagram & Facebook) and Ecommerce upkeep Health & Safety • Keep well informed of legislation and regulations relating to safe donations (e.g. Health Canada, municipal and provincial laws relating to waste management and recycling, chemical handling, electronic waste program, etc.) and implement safe systems for handling • Adhere to Health & Safety Guidelines as established by law and the organization • Ensure the support and direction necessary for the effective implementation of MCCO’s health and safety program are provided and, health and safety policies, procedures and regulations are enforced • Be proactive in maintaining clean workspaces that meet health & safety standards, in the workroom and on the retail floor • Ensure staff and volunteers follow all established protocols related to Covid-19 Other • Assist with kitchen responsibilities / Maintain and coordinate the volunteer break room • Perform other job-related duties as assigned • Participate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, Peace Conference and Staff Development Day • Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others • Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalized • Answer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC's values, articulating the importance of MCC's criteria for workers, all of whom serve as representatives of the Mennonite and Be in Christ churches which support MCC • Model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful daily interactions with staff and the public
